Description
He is one of the outstanding figures in the history of the United States of America, and this is all the more remarkable because he was one of its most bitter adversaries: Gokhlayeh, war chief and medicine man of the Chiricahua Apaches, better known as Geronimo. For decades he spread fear and terror among settlers and soldiers alike in Arizona and northern Mexico, striking again and again from ambush but always evading capture despite being vastly outnumbered.
Ultimately a desperate struggle, the Apaches found themselves increasingly under pressure from two sides in the 19th century: Mexicans and North Americans alike were pushing further and further into their ancestral territories, sparing neither deceit and treachery nor murder and manslaughter. This tragic late Western in comic book style relentlessly depicts Geronimo's relentless resistance, and as futile as it may have been, these years of struggle and glory made him a legend in his own lifetime. The retrospective recognition of the victors for one of their greatest opponents.
