This monograph focuses on two of the most important aircraft of the Italian Air Force from the mid-1950s to the early 1970s. The F-84F and RF-84F were the aircraft that introduced the use of nuclear weapons in Italy and enabled the establishment and development of aerial reconnaissance. Both fighter aircraft served during the golden age of the Italian Air Force, when the number of aircraft available was so large that large units, the Aerobrigate, were formed to manage a large number of aircraft and personnel. In addition, the Thunderstreak was used by two of the most famous aerobatic teams formed by units of the Italian Air Force before the establishment of the Frecce Tricolori: the Diavoli Rossi and the Getti Tonanti, which are described in two separate chapters.
