Description
In this book the author gives an overview of 50 years of aircraft painting in the Royal Netherlands Air Force. The Royal Netherlands Air Force had demonstration teams before 1970, but they remained virtually unknown and colourless. This only changed with the formation of the demonstration team "Whisky Four", which flew four T-33s in an attractive colour scheme, which were later exchanged for the F-84F "Thunderstreak".
After two fatal accidents, the team was disbanded and everything remained the same. The year 1970 can be described as a turning point. Then the last F-84F "Thunderstreak" was taken out of service and painted all in white and - in keeping with the flower power era - decorated with flowers and other knick-knacks. In 1973, KLu celebrated its 60th anniversary at Deelen Air Base and the "Grasshoppers" helicopter squadron made its first appearance. The Alouette wore yellow surfaces. Another "demo" team that appeared here was "Popsey Black", flying four Piper Super Cubs, which also had yellow stripes. After that, the colour schemes became more general and lush. Demonstration teams, squadron anniversaries and many other occasions were used to apply the most fantastic images.
