The Escadrille C.74 was founded in July 1916 and was a Franco-Belgian flying unit with French pilots, Belgian observers and some foreign volunteer pilots - a Cuban, an American and a Czech. The unit was mainly equipped with Caudron G.4, Caudron G.6 and Salmson 2A2 aircraft and focussed mainly on directing artillery fire during ground offensives such as the Battle of Ypres in 1917 and the Allied advance to the Hindenburg Line in 1918. The history of this unit is described in detail here.
