Description
Despite the losses, the Soviet victory at Stalingrad marked the beginning of the transformation of the Red Army. Supported by ambitious generals (and an all-powerful Stalin), the Red Army gradually changed and later had little to do with the Soviet army of the catastrophic summer of 1941. In the meantime, the Red Army was capable of complex and far-reaching offensives, such as in connection with the fighting at Kursk in the summer of 1943 or Operation "Bagration", the Red Army's great summer offensive in 1944, which almost brought down the entire German Eastern Front. The army that conquered Berlin in the spring of 1945 had little in common with the Red Army of June 1941.
This volume shows this technical, organisational and tactical transformation of the Red Army between 1943 and 1945. It describes the most important operations, weapons and, above all, vehicles of the Soviet troops from the victory at Stalingrad to the conquest of Berlin and the victory over Japan in August 1945.
