The ranks of the highest Waffen-SS leaders ranged from SS-Brigadeführer and Major General of the Waffen-SS to SS-Oberstgruppenführer and Colonel General of the Waffen-SS. This reference work presents the biographies of around 100 of these men in text and pictures. The data compiled for this purpose comes from the files of the SS Personnel Office at the Berlin Document Centre. Through his systematic examination of the personnel data, the author was also able to gather important statistical findings about the holders of general ranks, such as their age structure, regional and social origins, religious beliefs and education, war decorations and losses. The author also investigates the party membership of the Waffen-SS generals with the astonishing result that 18 of them were not members of the NSDAP.
