Description
The story of one of the most famous parachute regiments of the German Wehrmacht from its initial formation in the spring of 1943 to its last day. Numerous members of the regiment have their say, recounting their wartime experiences and describing the events in a lively, drastic and vivid manner. The reader learns hitherto unknown details about the operations in Italy, Russia, on the Normandy front, in Belgium, Holland, the last German jump operation in the Ardennes and the final battle in Germany. Over 100 original photographs, many privately owned by the old paratroopers and never before published, illustrate the men, their uniforms, equipment and weapons. An appendix with maps, battle calendars, staffing rosters, index of field post and mob numbers, and a directory of the regiment's Knight's Cross holders round out the documentation.
