Description
Fight for Aachen. In September 1944, Sergeant Helmut Klingler manages to escape from American captivity in a Belgian village west of Aachen. In his attempt to flee towards Germany, he comes across a bus carrying Belgian civilians who are to be taken to Bergen-Belsen. There he meets the young Jacqueline. From then on, their paths crossed again and again. Klingler, who actually made it to his old unit, is surrounded by the Americans in a bunker with 15 men. But he manages to break out and escapes again. On his escape he observes two SA men who shoot a boy while looting. He kills them and is henceforth considered a murderer and deserter. While trying to get to safety, he again encounters the bus with the Belgian prisoners. He is able to save Jacqueline and flees with her through bombed-out Aachen. The Standgericht hangs over Klingler like a sword of Damocles, and in the turmoil of war he and the young Belgian woman can trust no one.
