Description
Consisting of a chain of forts, bunkers and tank obstacles, the West Wall - called the Siegfried Line by the Allies - stretched along the western border of the German Reich. During the rapid Allied advance through France, the Germans retreated to this fortification. In fierce battles, among the fiercest on the Western Front, German troops held off the Allies for several months. Descriptions include Operation Market Garden, the capture of Aachen, the bloody slaughter in the Hürtgen Forest and the battle for the fortified city of Metz.
