The official catalogue of the exhibition "Lee Miller. Saint-Malo assiégée. August 1944", organised by the City of Saint-Malo from 18 June to 29 September 2024. This work is an exceptional testimony on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation. Lee Miller landed on Omaha Beach on 12 August 1944 and arrived in Saint-Malo the next day. She was to make a report on civil affairs and found the city under siege. Armed with her Rolleifleix and a 1939 map from the tourist office, she was the only photojournalist to cover the fierce fighting that led to the liberation of Saint-Malo. She photographed refugees, helped civilians, entered the devastated old town and witnessed the final assault on the citadel of Alet, its bombardment with napalm and the German surrender. Her reportage, text and photos, some of which were not allowed to be published in Vogue magazine at the time, is an extraordinary testimony.
