The German Revolution of 1918/19 is a disappointment. In fact, it wasn't really a revolution at all. At least, it never entered the German historical consciousness as such. This is due to how it was passed down. Even the historical contemporaries of 1918/19 struggled to describe it as a "revolution" or even to recount it. The concept of revolution lacked majority support and inclusiveness among them. This book examines how they perceived, described, and narrated the events before their eyes, and how they grappled with the guiding principle of "revolution." It offers a new perspective and a new understanding of the founding history of the Weimar Republic.
