Volume 16 of the "Acta Austro-Polonica" series. This collection of scholarly essays examines the various occupation regimes during the First World War. During the First World War, vast, densely populated regions of Central and Southern Europe were occupied. The volume analyzes the experiences of occupation from the perspectives of both the occupiers and the people in the occupied territories. The occupation led, among other things, to economic exploitation and mass emigration. The symposium will present various models of occupation policy, including the Russian occupation of Galicia and Bukovina, as well as the Austro-Hungarian and German occupations of Russian Poland, Ukraine, and Serbia. Just as today, more than 100 years ago Russian imperialism denied the national sovereignty of the Ukrainians.
