Description
"The Forgotten World War" is the hitherto unwritten master narrative, the fascinating, grandiose account of an unknown world war to be rediscovered: the war in Eastern Europe from 1912 to 1923. In our historical memory, World War I is reduced to the war of position and the material battles in Northern France. The immeasurable tragedies that took place in the East are erased from our consciousness.
The settings range from the 1st Balkan War in 1912 to the Habsburg part of Ukraine and Russia in the early 1920s. The layout of the two volumes - "1912-16 Empires" and "1917-23 Nations" - is already fascinatingly new. But the perspective widens even more in terms of content, for in the ethnically and religiously fractured East, the war quickly becomes a "race war" and thus forms the prelude to the larger race war 15 years later. A work that "will be read and discussed for many years to come", according to Professor Timothy Snyder.
