Description
Volume 133 of the series "Guerreros y Batallas" describes the role of Spanish troops during the first coalition war against revolutionary France in 1792-1793. Spain joined the anti-French coalition in August 1792, and the French National Convention declared war on Spain on 7 March 1793. In the ensuing campaign in the Spanish-French border area, the towns of Irún and Hondarribia, as the sites of the most important fighting, played the central role in one of the lesser-known military operations of the first coalition war.
This volume first describes the circumstances for Spain's accession to the anti-French coalition, France's reaction to this diplomatic and ultimately hostile act, and the situation in the border area between France and Spain at Bidasoa. The following two chapters describe the course of the two campaigns between April 1793 and February 1794 and March to August 1794.
