The 85th volume in this series on the Napoleonic Wars focuses on Napoleon Bonaparte's coup d'état on the so-called 18th Brumaire VIII of the French Revolutionary Calendar (9 November 1799). The booklet describes the situation of France and Napoleon Bonaparte in the run-up to the coup d'état, it deals with the role of Napoleon's Egyptian campaign in 1798/99 and his return from the Orient, the situation in France that Napoleon found on his return, and finally the course of the Napoleonic coup d'état. The book then goes on to deal with Napoleon's appointment as First Consul, which effectively made him sole ruler, and his political activity in this capacity.
Further topics include the Parisian fountains from the Napoleonic era, the assassination of Tsar Paul I, an analysis of the painting "La mort de Napoléon" by Charles-Auguste de Steuben, short biographies of one confidant (Louis-Antoine Fauvelet de Bourrienne) and one declared opponent (Philipp Friedrich Carl Ferdinand, Baron von Müffling) of Napoleon, the bivouac of Emperor Napoleon I (tent including interior decoration), and a look at religious renewal in Britain in the wake of the Napoleonic Wars.
