Description
Issue 48 of the series "Gloire & Empire" deals with the war on the Iberian Peninsula in 1811, and in particular with the battle of Albuera on 16 May 1811. The course of the battle and its consequences are described in detail. Preceding the section on the battle itself, the volume discusses the political and military context of the engagement as well as the immediate military operations, and especially the two sieges of Badajoz, which are dealt with in a separate section. There is also an up-to-date look at the present state of the Albuera battlefield, an analysis of a painting depicting the battle at Hanau, and a continuation of an article on the uniforms of the Saxon army 1806-1815.
