Six days in October 1813 led to the end of Napoleonic domination in Europe. The fascination of what later became known as the Battle of the Nations lay not only in the mass of armies marching up. It was the hundreds of thousands with an unprecedented diversity of their countries of origin. Memories paint the picture of the warlike event. They were written down by soldiers of the victorious armies. They were Prussians and Mecklenburgers, Russians, Austrians, Swedes and Englishmen.
