Description
In the fifth volume of the series, two members of the SS cavalry have their say. Albert Schwenn was drafted into the SS Cavalry Replacement Detachment in Warsaw in October 1942 and eventually took part in the 5th /SS Rider Regiment 1 in the operations in the so-called Wet Triangle to fight the Soviet partisans and then on the front before Kharkov. Here he was wounded in October 1943.
Finally, he remained as an instructor in the SS Cavalry Training
and Replacement Department until the end of the war, experiencing the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 and the uprising
in Prague in 1945. At the age of 16, Walter Nuhn was drafted into the SS Cavalry Training and Replacement Regiment at the SS "Bohemia" troop training area in February 1945. He describes the training and his subsequent captivity with extraordinary vividness.
Interestingly, Schwenn and Nuhn had the same SS-Sturmscharführer König as
instructor, even though there were almost two and a half years between their enlistments.
Both remember a strict but sympathetic instructor.
