Die Supermarine Spitfire und der BAe Hawk repräsentieren zwei ikonische britische Flugzeugkonstruktionen des 20. Jahrhunderts, die zwar in unterschiedlichen Epochen der Luftfahrttechnologie entwickelt wurden, aber dennoch für Millionen von Menschen sofort erkennbar sind. Die Spitfire, Großbritanniens berühmtestes Kampfflugzeug, gilt noch immer als das Flugzeug, das der Nation in den dunklen Tagen der Schlacht um Großbritannien zur Hilfe kam, und ihr charakteristischer elliptischer Flügel gilt noch immer als Designklassiker. Als Reittier der weltberühmten "Red Arrows" ist die BAe Hawk heute unbestritten das Flugzeug, das für die Professionalität der modernen Royal Air Force steht und mit 44 Jahren außergewöhnlicher Dienstzeit sogar die Lebensdauer der berühmten Spitfire in den Schatten stellt.
Während der diesjährigen Gedenkfeiern zum 80. Jahrestag der Schlacht um Großbritannien werden die Fans hoffen, die Hawks der Red Arrows bei einer Reihe von Airshow-Veranstaltungen in den Sommermonaten bei mehreren stimmungsvollen Formationsflügen mit Spitfires und Hurricanes zu sehen.

Representing two iconic British aircraft designs of the 20th century, the Supermarine Spitfire and BAe Hawk may have been developed during different eras of aviation technology, however, they are both instantly recognizable to millions of people. As Britains most famous fighting aeroplane, the Spitfire is still viewed as the aircraft which came to the nations rescue during the dark days of the Battle of Britain and its distinctive elliptical wing is still regarded as a design classic. As the mount of the world famous Red Arrows, the BAe Hawk is now unquestionably the aircraft which has come to represent the professionalism of the modern Royal Air Force and with 44 years exceptional service already to its name, even eclipses the service life of the famous Spitfire.
