1980 stellte der deutsche Automobilhersteller auf dem Genfer Automobilsalon sein neues zweitüriges Coupé namens Audi Quattro vor. Der von Audi für die gesamten 80er Jahre gewählte italienische Name (Quattro ist das italienische Wort für "vier") wies auf das Hauptmerkmal und das wichtigste Verkaufsargument hin: den Allradantrieb. Es war das erste Mal, dass die 4x4-Lösung bei einem Coupé eingesetzt wurde, um hohe Produktions- und Verkaufszahlen auf dem Markt zu erreichen. Der Audi Quattro konnte dank seines längs eingebauten Frontmotors gute Fahrleistungen und eine sehr gute Zuverlässigkeit bei allen Straßenverhältnissen bieten. Aus der Serienproduktion wurde 1981 ein spezielles Auto für Wettbewerbe entwickelt, das in der Rallye-Weltmeisterschaft debütierte und gute Ergebnisse erzielte. Der Erfolg der "Quattro"-Autos hält bis heute an, denn der Name ist zu einer echten "Marke" geworden, die die gesamte Palette der vierradgetriebenen Audi-Produktion kennzeichnet.
In 1980, during the Geneva Motor Show, the German car manufacturer presented to the public its new twodoor coupé called Audi Quattro. Produced for all the '80s the Italian name choosed by Audi (Quattro is the Italian word for four) ine was pointed out the main feature and the most important selling point : the fourwheel drive. It was the first time that the 4x4 solution was adopted on a coupé with the goal to achieve high numbers in terms of production and sales on the market. The Audi Quattro was able to release good driving performance, thanks to its frontal longitudinal engine, and very good reliability on all type of road conditions. From the mass production a dedicated car for competitions was developed on 1981 and it debuted in the World Rally Championship, achieving good results. The success of Quattro cars is still existing today in fact the name has become a real brand that identifies all the range of Audis four wheel drive production.
